The first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, recalled that February 2 marks the 25th anniversary of the first inauguration of Commander Chávez as president of the country.

“That should be celebrated in style. Young people under 25 have no idea what this country was like. This country was something else before the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez (...) A comparison that can be made is the graduation last year of young high school graduates (336,000) to whom President Nicolás Maduro told them that they were all guaranteed their place in the university, something that didn't happen before,” he said.

He recalled that in Venezuela “young people were killed for fighting for a place in the university (..) they were murdered for asking for a place. There was something called the Committee of High School Students with No Space and then something called the Floating Population. It was sad.”
