Cabello recalled his first meeting with Commander Chávez on the Maduro Podcast: It all started in the heat of the sport!

Diosdado Cabello recalled his first encounter with Commander Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías in 1984, when he was studying for the second year of his career at the Military Academy.

“I was in my second year at the academy when that character arrived. He was designated for the gym and since it was such a fever we recognized each other because we were the same (...) I saw it and I said to myself: here came Captain Chávez who joined the baseball team and began to practice with us like another cadet. Then they appointed him Commander of the Military Course and created the Fifth Company and put him in charge,” he recalled.

During his participation in the podcast of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and the first fighter Cilia Flores, the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), he noted that as soon as he met Captain Chávez, “we began to have a camaraderie in the heat of sports.”

“He formed the team and named it El Famoso, he was called that first because we played in the university league (which didn't happen) and we also ended up fighting in a stadium and became famous.”

He added that the Military Academy “is giving you responsibilities little by little, such as running a classroom from home and since I was on the entry age limit, I saw things differently.”
