The Government of the People's Republic of
China rejected statements by the European Union (EU) about the alleged
violation of Human Rights by the Asian country.
“China has a philosophy of
human rights centered on people, and believes that a happy life for people
is the most important human right (...) we have won the greatest battle against
poverty in human history, and we have set up the largest education, social security and health systems
in the world,” said Foreign Ministry
spokeswoman Mao Ning, while accusing the European body of
wanting to tarnish the image of the Asian Giant.
In this regard, Mao assured that the
Chinese government works to “develop popular democracy throughout the process,
promote the rule of law for human rights, and safeguard
equity and social justice.”
In addition, he urged the EU to publicly recognize China's achievements and “put an end to arrogance and prejudice, abandon hypocritical double standards, and take concrete steps to improve its own human rights conditions.”
