The Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi, during his speech at the Munich Security Conference (Germany), called for an immediate ceasefire in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“We cannot allow this humanitarian disaster to continue,” said Wang, calling for no obstacles to humanitarian corridors and for an international peace conference to be held “as soon as possible” in order to reach a solution based on the establishment of two States, one for Israel and the other for Palestine.
In another vein, the Chinese diplomat rejected “any attempt to blame China or to divert responsibility for resolving the crisis in Ukraine to China”, in response to requests from the European Commission's (EC) Foreign Affairs representative, Josep Borrell, to “refrain from supporting Russia” in the war with Ukraine.
He specified that China “has never given up on promoting peace nor has it been lazy in its efforts to promote negotiations.”
In addition, he explained that “relations between China and Russia are growing steadily on the basis of non-alliance, non-confrontation and non-fixation on third countries. They meet the common interests of both countries, serve strategic stability in Asia-Pacific and in the world, and represent a useful exploration of a new model of relations between important countries.”
