Crime rate decreased 16% during 2023 in Mérida

It reduced
crime by 16.8% in the state of Mérida during 2023, according to
information released by the government, through a press release.
Information from the
government details that this index corresponds to the entire state and covers
crimes in general, as explained by the chief commissioner, Ángel Zambrano Zerpa,
director general of the Autonomous Police Institute of the Bolivarian State of Mérida (IAPEBM).
In this regard, he specified that in
the 23 municipalities, a total of “406 arrests were recorded, that is, 308
people involved in various crimes that were placed under the order of the
Public Ministry, 81 arrests related to those requested by
judicial bodies and he said that 17 of those arrested are teenagers”.
He added that IAPEBM
officials dismantled two criminal gangs,
and seized 36 white weapons and 11
firearms in the different procedures, which are in the process of destruction and withheld 118 motor vehicles and motorcycles due to irregular situations.
