During the meeting of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace with national media, the deputy of the National Assembly (AN), Nicolás Maduro Guerra, stated that the country's social media are aligned in a single direction: sovereignty and peace. “Venezuela is a country of peace, and this movement has a great responsibility for what is transmitted to the world, what the real Venezuela is, and I see in the streets a country at peace, a country growing and a country working.”
From this space of communication articulation, Maduro Guerra stressed that “there are international media that want to paint what Venezuela is not, so I ask this great powerful movement to make a greater effort to show the reality of Venezuela, let's make the voice of Venezuela, which is a country that will continue to build its future.”
The parliamentarian recalled the media coup that occurred in 2002, when the popular mobilization in Caracas was silenced. “The role of radio and television, of public information in general, this meeting is historic, because here 20 years ago, with other characters, there was a media coup in Venezuela, and what was happening on the streets of Caracas was silenced,” he said.
Maduro Guerra stressed that, unlike that episode, the country's media today represent a plural, critical voice committed to national values. “But today the country's media are currently a plural voice, of diversity, critical and aligned with the country; it is understood in sovereignty and peace; we see here an exhibition in this Council, with various speeches from all media.”
