FIIIDT evaluates buildings in Tanaguarena after the contingency of June 24

The Institute of Engineering Foundation for Research and Technological Development (FIIIDT), an entity attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology, activated a technical operation in the Caraballeda parish to inspect the condition of structures affected by natural events recorded in the Tanaguarena area.

Víctor Cano, technical director of the institution, led the review of the Franco Mar and Caraballeda Beach buildings, which suffered significant damage. During the procedure, the specialists applied the rapid evaluation form designed by the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Buildings.

This instrument has been validated by the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) and the Institute of Materials and Structural Models (IMME) of the Central University of Venezuela, the result of years of joint research.

Engineer Cano explained that the methodology allows a comprehensive inspection to be completed in less than an hour, verifying both the structure and the masonry enclosures to assign a color classification. As a result of this day, both buildings received the red label provisionally, which, the expert clarified, does not imply an immediate demolition order.

Faced with this diagnosis, the buildings must be submitted to an exhaustive study carried out by civil engineers with a specialty in structural pathology. This analysis will determine the technical feasibility of the necessary repairs so that, once the reinforcement is completed, it can be transferred from the red classification to the green classification. Cano stressed that this process requires rigor and time, since it is essential to define the real magnitude of the deterioration and chart the route that guarantees citizen security.

The FIIIDT maintains its deployment in damaged areas, making progress in the risk cadastre with the purpose of protecting the integrity of buildings in the state of La Guaira.
