The transfer of the mortal remains of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes to the pantheon of national heroes represents an act of justice for a Venezuelan who loved his country and defended it with his life, emphasized the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
“Claiming the admission of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes to the National Pantheon means a tribute to a good man who defended the Fatherland above any circumstance, difficulty or pain,” he said.
The head of state stressed that the “Terror of the English” embodied the deep love of patriots for their territory, demonstrated in the battles he fought against British forces that, at the end of the 19th century, sought to violate the sacred soil of Venezuela.
“Our people took to the streets to recognize in those remains and those bones a superior force that made Venezuela respect in the face of the British Empire, a caravan of vindication, of dignity, which this man hidden in history who became a legend deserves it,” he said.
