The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, stated, this Monday during his Con Maduro+ program , that thanks to Peace Diplomacy, the face-to-face meeting with the Government of Guyana that gave birth to the Argyle Joint Declaration for Dialogue and Peace between the two countries was achieved.

This first step paves the way to address a “set of actions that are going to be taken from now on” in the border conflict between the two nations.

The Head of State reiterated his gratitude to the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and president pro tempore of CELAC, to Ralph Gonsalves; “for all his attention and leadership”, as well as to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica and president of CARICOM, Roosevelt Skerrit, and also to the prime ministers of nine Caribbean nations “who were present and accompanied us”.

“I thank the Vice Chancellor of Honduras, the Foreign Minister of Colombia (Álvaro Leyva), because the role of Honduras and Colombia was central; and I thank President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva and the role he has been playing for understanding, peace, so that North American imperialism does not wage a war as they want with the Southern Command, here in the Caribbean, here in South America,” he said.

He stressed that thanks to the mediation of countries in the region at the meeting, both parties agreed to hold dialogues to resolve the dispute and to hold a next meeting, approximately, in three months.

In the same way, they agreed to create a joint commission, which will be made up of the foreign ministers of both nations, to address the Essequibo controversy.

The Head of State emphasized that this document expresses eleven points, the results of the high-level meeting between Guyana and Venezuela and its border controversy. “It is a historic document, very important”, based on which “a set of actions were left pending that are going to be taken from now on,” he stressed.
