INDEPAZ reported assassination of Colombian indigenous leader

On December 24, the Institute for Development and Peace Studies (INDEPAZ) reported the assassination of another Colombian indigenous leader.

“He was killed in the early hours of the morning in the La Bomba del Pescador sector on the Pan-American Highway,” INDEPAZ said through the social network X.

The victim was identified as Eliécer Puyo Chocué who was a community member of the La Laguna Reserve, a member of the Nasa Indigenous People's Guard in the municipality of Caldona, Cauca.

For its part, the Office of the Ombudsman has issued AT 019/23 for leaders and defenders of human rights and AT 019/22, in which it indicates the risk scenario faced by people who are dedicated to the defense of human rights and social leadership individually or collectively from various spheres or sectors in the country.

So far, the number of social leaders assassinated has increased to 188 so far in 2023.
