The Republic of India launched the first space mission in 2024 aimed at studying black holes, while preparations are progressing for the first manned mission to space carried out by the Asian nation.
A press release from that country's Ministry of Science and Technology states that the takeoff was “normal”.
“The XPOSat satellite was successfully launched”, indicates the text stating that the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) indicated that the launch of the satellite, propelled by a PSLV-C58 rocket, took place at 9:10 local time from the center of Sriharikota in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh, and was placed in a circular orbit of 350 kilometers.
Namely, during 2024 they will carry out research on polarization measurements of X-ray emissions from celestial sources, including black holes, through two payloads that it carries: POLIX, an X-ray polarimeter instrument; and XSPECT, intended for X-ray spectroscopy and timing.
