INTT banned the traffic of ATVs on the country's road network (+statement)

The National Institute of Land Transportation (INTT) reiterated that the traffic of ATVs on the national road network is prohibited in accordance with current regulations.

The institution recalled that these vehicles lack the safety devices required to drive on highways, roads and avenues in the country, so their use should be limited exclusively to off-road recreational activities.

“ATVs do not meet the technical standards necessary to interact safely with urban or interurban traffic, which represents a risk for their occupants and for third parties,” the agency said, urging citizens to respect regulations to avoid sanctions and ensure road safety.

Prohibition of ATV traffic on the national road network

The National Institute of Land Transportation (INTT) makes it public that the traffic of quad-bike vehicles (ATVs or quadricycles) is strictly prohibited on highways, highways and avenues throughout the national road network. These vehicles are for off-road sports, tourism or recreational use only.

In accordance with the current legal regulations governing the matter in Venezuela and its regulations, every vehicle that circulates on public roads must necessarily have approved safety devices. The structural engineering of ATVs does not meet the requirements required to safely interact with urban or interurban vehicle traffic.

The prohibition is mainly based on the fact that these units have multiple regulatory safety deficiencies, such as the lack of regulatory lighting and rear-view mirrors suitable for public roads, the use of taco tires designed exclusively for dirt or mud that lose traction on asphalt, the insufficiency of their suspension and braking systems to stop the unit at fast track speeds, and the total absence of active and passive protection elements to safeguard the lives of occupants and pedestrians.

For all of the above, the community and drivers are urged to comply with current legal regulations to avoid administrative sanctions, the retention of units and ensure comprehensive safety on the country's roads.
