In a brilliant display of quick and accurate pitching, Venezuelan left-handed Jesús Luzardo reached a career milestone when he signed his first shutout in the major leagues after 150 starts.
Luzardo , who arrived at the game after being awarded the National League Pitcher of the Month in August, prescribed 12 strikeouts and allowed just two hits over nine full innings, to lead the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves.
The left-handed man maintained surgical control of the strike zone after making 109 pitches, of which 78 were strikes, in 1 hour and 51 minutes of play.
The Venezuelan kept the game perfect in the ticket section until the ninth inning, where he awarded his only base on the balls before retiring the last two batters to seal the win.
