“At this time, planes have departed from the United States, Mexico, Spain and Qatar, together with technical United Nations search and rescue teams, made up of specialists of different nationalities assigned to operations in disaster areas of the country, as reported by the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, when presenting an updated balance of the assistance and rescue actions after the double earthquake recorded this Wednesday.

Rodríguez explained that these groups work in coordination with national teams to locate, recover and rescue people, in a scenario that he described as an emergency that requires immediate and sustained response.

The President of the Parliament reiterated that the priority is to save lives, so he called on the population to collaborate from the collection centers that will be set up in schools, universities, social organizations, the International Red Cross and various churches.

He asked to concentrate contributions on water, medicines, mattresses and blankets, noting that “although many people want to go to affected areas, the best way to help is to provide what is at hand”.

Rodríguez insisted on keeping calm and organized: “We are all going to come out together, just as we have managed to overcome other misfortunes.”

He indicated that so far 250 buildings have been affected or lost, mainly in the state of La Guaira, with the greatest impact on Caraballeda and Playa Grande.
