The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, urged the Venezuelan population this Friday to remain calm and attend only to official communications, in the face of the false news that some sectors are trying to spread to generate alarm in the midst of the contingency due to the earthquakes that occurred in the country last Wednesday, June 23.

In providing an overview of the tragedy, Rodríguez denounced that some malicious sectors have tried to assemble information without support, since the first moment of the emergency.

“Yesterday they raised the topic of the supposed tsunami, the false tsunami. Knowing that it was a lie, they generated significant delays in the process of rescuing the trapped people, they generated a real exodus of people who, already in the circumstance we are in, have experienced the greatest suffering. They added desperation to desperation and all with an intention,” he lamented.

In this regard, he reiterated his call to the population to “remain calm and only attend to official communication. We are not going to hide anything about the magnitude of this tragedy, which is immense, which is the biggest we have suffered in the last 100 years. We are not going to hide anything at all,” he emphasized.

“Don't listen to false hoaxes and fakes, even if they seem very real. Even some videos showed a beach in the state of Sucre, which always retreats its waters naturally. There is no tsunami warning of any kind (...) but it is not surprising that other types of hoaxes appear. Only attend to official communication, attend only to what the Bolivarian Government and the Single Authority want to communicate to you, do not pay attention to falsehoods and lies,” he said.
