Magnitude 6.0 earthquake shakes southern Peru

This Wednesday, the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 was recorded 31 kilometers west of Aplao, in the province of Castilla, in the Arequipa region.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake whose epicenter was in the Iray region of Peru occurred at a depth of 93.4 kilometers underground.

For its part, the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Navy of the South American nation, reported that there is no possibility of a tsunami.

It is worth noting that Peru, one of the countries with the most seismic movements in the world, is located in the Pacific Seismic Zone, also known as the “belt of fire”.

So far, authorities have reported no material damage or casualties.
