The sector vice-president of Public Works and Services, Juan José Ramírez, ruled out the existence of an official list of 39 buildings that would be demolished in the state of La Guaira, denying the information that had circulated on social networks after the earthquakes of last June 24.

“All these lists are not official,” said Ramírez, specifying that no building will be demolished without first completing the technical evaluation process established by the Presidential Commission to Evaluate the Habitability of Housing and Infrastructure, the Latest News portal reported .

He explained that the affected buildings are initially subject to a damage assessment and, subsequently, pathological engineers determine if the structures can be recovered or if they have conditions that make their repair unfeasible. “We haven't published any lists,” he said.

The Minister of the People's Power of Public Works also said that decisions will be taken with the participation of communities, condominium councils and regional and municipal authorities.

Once the corresponding evaluations have been completed, cases requiring demolition will be officially reported.

He also added that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) incorporated psychologists to provide support to families during this process, especially in sectors where the need to carry out demolitions is determined.
