Ministry of Education guarantees the start of classes after seismic damage

The Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, assured this Wednesday that the start of the school year will take place on September 14, as announced.

During an interview with a renowned radio station, Rodríguez explained that, out of a total of approximately 27,000 schools throughout the country, 900 suffered minor damage after the double earthquake of June 24 and are currently undergoing repair. In addition, 87 schools registered severe damage and are not in a position to reopen, so they will undergo extensive rehabilitation.

The minister, according to a press release, added that 11 schools completely collapsed and that the 67 schools that functioned temporarily as temporary shelters for affected families are being progressively evicted before the school restart.

In the same way, he indicated that students from collapsed or disqualified schools, as well as those whose families had to move from a federal entity, will be relocated to the educational institutions closest to their new residence.

On the other hand, the Ministry instructed school directors to allow immediate enrollment of students, even if they do not present their identity card, birth certificate or certified grades at the time, granting a period of regularization during the school year.

Finally, he explained that the teaching staff will return to their activities starting Wednesday, September 9, for the purpose of receiving pedagogical induction, psychological training and logistical preparation. As a novelty for this period, the school calendar will include mandatory specific dates for carrying out simulations for seismic emergencies in each academic period
