Ministry of Habitat and Housing serves 564 families in Mare Abajo after earthquakes in La Guaira

The Ministry of Popular Power for Habitat and Housing (MINHIV) is carrying out rehabilitation and direct care for families in the Mare Abajo sector, located in the Carlos Soublette parish of the state of La Guaira, following the effects generated by the double seismic event of last June 24.

The head of the Habitat and Housing portfolio, Paola Posani, reported that work crews are carrying out repair works in 30 buildings categorized under technical inspection with a yellow classification, which group a total of 564 homes.

“We have been there since the beginning. And not only are we recovering this group of houses with all the services, but we have also encountered structural problems that we have had to solve,” said the minister in statements collected by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

Posani explained that the technical evaluations detected arbitrary modifications in the original urban structures, a situation that altered the physical support of the buildings and required specialized engineering intervention.

“The system that this set is made of are concrete walls. In some cases there are families who knocked down those concrete walls to expand the space. Structures cannot be demolished, they cannot be modified because they bring problems,” he explained.

He also indicated that the works are simultaneously extended to the popular sectors adjacent to Mare Abajo, with the technical goal of raising the risk rating of properties from yellow to green. More than 636 workers are deployed for the execution of these works.

“Not only are we in the 564 houses that were in yellow and that will turn green when we finish, but also in the neighborhood that is upstairs. We have more than 636 workers on that project and it's a day and night job,” emphasized Posani.

The work includes the restoration of basic services in the community, which were damaged after the earthquake. In the same way, in conjunction with the Mayor's Office of Caracas and various State institutions through the Venezuela Renace Plan, the National Government implements infrastructure interventions in other affected localities such as Ciudad Caribia and various sectors of the capital region.
