This Monday, a mural was inaugurated in honor of the Virgin of Coromoto, patron saint of Venezuela, in the Vatican Gardens. The activity was carried out within the framework of the enthronement of this Marian dedication and as part of the celebration for the canonization of the first two Venezuelan saints: Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles.
The official delegation of the Bolivarian Government was led by the Sectorial Vice President for Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, who highlighted the symbolism of the mural as a representation of the soul of the Venezuelan people and, in particular, of the fundamental role of women in building peace.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Jiménez recalled that the Venezuelan virgin has been an expression of Marian devotion since 1652, when she first spoke to cacique Coromoto.
During her participation in the activity, the Minister of Science and Technology also stressed that “Venezuelans are Marians, Marians in the Blessed Virgin Mary and the opportunity to accompany this act of enthronement today is to reaffirm our faith”.
Referring to the two Venezuelan saints, he noted that both reflect the Marian exercise of love, solidarity and the work of God on earth. In this regard, he extended “President Nicolás Maduro's invitation to a life of service that is also the manifestation of God in each of the spaces, in the arts, in design, in science, in food, in engineering, in coexistence,” he added.
The mural of the Virgin of Coromoto is a work by the artist Luis Enrique Mogollón, who will also submit a work with the image of Saint Joseph Gregorio Hernández to the Latin American School in Rome.
