National Government inspects military buildings in La Guaira after seismic events

Specialists from the National Center for Research and Certification in Housing, Habitat and Urban Development (CENVIH), attached to the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT), accompanied the inspection of the buildings of the Marine Corps and the Army Corps of Engineers, in the Catia La Mar Parish in the state of La Guaira.

In this regard, ship captain Jenny Jiménez Hernández, director of Infrastructure of the Bolivarian Navy Corps of Engineers, explained the importance of deployment.

“We came to do an infrastructure-level inspection with specialists from the Ministry of Science and Technology, in order to evaluate this building at the level of columns, beams and slabs,” he said.

He pointed out that, after the revaluation carried out by the technical team, serious effects were detected. It was observed that some structures are in poor condition after the earthquake, so buildings have to be closed and not allowed to pass, due to severe damage to columns and beams.

For her part, the civil engineer of CENVIH, Katherine Sanz, added that they carry out regulatory inspections after the earthquake, following the instructions of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Habitat, Housing and Infrastructure, to give appropriate instructions to each entity and thus safeguard human life.

In addition, the president of CENVIH, Ramón Guevara, explained that the team is responsible for certifying and validating construction systems, in addition to proposing alternative materials for the construction sector.

The official stated that they have a body of engineers trained in the field. “We inspect the buildings and take an external tour to see the state of the structure. We observed that there is no imminent collapse, we proceed to enter the interior and check each of the columns and beams of the building,” he explained.
