  • On September 16, 1962, the 26-year-old worker Omar Ramones Prieto attended the celebration of the Anniversary of the Communist Youth of Venezuela (JCV), in the vicinity of Plaza Capuchos on San Martín Avenue, when armed bands of Democratic Action (AD), accompanied by officials from the Directorate General of Police (DIGEPOL), they infiltrated the meeting to produce bloody acts and assassinate him.
  • During the celebration, slogans were shouted and propaganda was distributed referring to the 15 years of struggle of that youth organization.
  • Several Digepole and adecos agents had managed to get confused within the ranks of the crowd, singling out the most prominent leaders to shoot them down.
  • One of the infiltrators, identified as Antonio Bracho Noguera, approached Omar Ramones Prieto and shot him at point-blank range. Once he fell to the ground, the agent was vicious at his victim, butchering him off.
  • The thugs thus began shooting left and right at everyone present, shooting after them, injuring two and arresting a third.
  • This group of police officers, associated with members of the AD paramilitary gangs, were led by Atahualpa Montes, who was acting under the orders of Carlos Andrés Pérez, Minister of Internal Relations.
  • Omar Ramones Prieto was once imprisoned during the administration of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez.
  • At the time of Romulo Betancourt, he was arrested and imprisoned seven times, until he was appointed that day for his execution.
  • Ramones Prieto was born in 1936, in Edo. Aragua. He was the son of Ramón Ramones, founder of AD. He left behind a widow and a son younger than four months old.
  • That same day, at night, the young JCV militant Jesús Osuna was also assassinated.
