The Liberator Simon Bolivar considered justice to be an essential virtue, which is why he asked the Congress of Angostura, in 1820, to abolish slavery, said Defense Minister G/J Vladimir Padrino López.
Through a message posted on his X account, the senior military officer recalled 204 years since the progressive abolition of slavery by the Congress of Angostura.
“Our Liberator considered justice to be the essential virtue, this being the foundation on which he based the request he made to the Congress of Angostura in 1820, through which he asked for the recognition of equal rights for all human beings. This marked the beginning of a whole path that ended this colonial form of oppression, declaring the progressive suppression of slavery,” wrote the senior military officer.
