The current international dynamic and the country's internal context, with regard to the defense of our sacred territory of the Essequibo, requires us to define sides in terms of those who are determined to protect the country and those who are willing to hand it over to imperialism, said Defense Minister, G/J Vladimir Padrino López.

“Today we must define camps between patriots and stateless persons, between traitors and loyalists, between Bolivarians and anti-Bolivarians. The country demands from us, in addition to virtue and moral strength, coherence for the defense of a democratic project and of greatness for the country. Coherence in the defense of our territorial integrity, which irreversibly contemplates the Essequibo territory,” he stressed during his participation in an activity at the National Pantheon in honor of El Libertador, Simón Bolívar.

He also highlighted that transnational oil companies are trying to “get their hands” into the territorial dispute over the Essequibo to seize the resources that underlie it, regardless of whether they jeopardize peace and security in the region.

“At present, the global geopolitical upheaval, marked by the configuration of a new order and the race for hydrocarbons, places rich Guiana and its maritime projection once again in the sights of imperial powers, who, in their desperation to avoid decay, are willing to take vile actions. We will be here prepared for any situation of this nature, this FANB is peace-loving but we remain alert,” he said.

In this regard, he welcomed the diplomatic efforts made by President Nicolás Maduro to resolve this controversy through dialogue, “without this meaning that we are willing to give up one millimeter of our territory.”
