The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, led the start of the 2026-2027 school year on Monday, with the return to classrooms of more than 6 million children and adolescents throughout the country.
From the Elías Toro National Basic School, in Caracas, he highlighted the extraordinary deployment of the Bolivarian Government to guarantee the return to classes after the earthquakes of last June 24.
“6 million, almost 10 thousand children who are returning to their school activities today, but first our tribute to the boys and girls, to our young people who lost their lives in the double earthquake (...) we have had, as you know, damages that we have been recovering. 11 schools collapsed, almost 1017 were affected, many of them have already been rehabilitated and others are already in the process of recovery,” said the president.
During the day, 302 fully rehabilitated schools and 14 new schools are being delivered. 1500 educational institutions will be rehabilitated during this school year in the seven states affected by the seismic events.
