In an effort to mitigate the devastating effects of the earthquake that occurred last June 24, the president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, led an institutional coordination meeting with authorities from the United States and the Venezuelan Government.
The main purpose of the meeting was to evaluate rescue operations and the channeling of humanitarian aid after the earthquake, which has left an unfortunate toll of 920 people dead in the country.
The working group included the strategic participation of Major General Kevin Joseph Jarrard, an expert in natural disaster care and coordination, who arrived in Caracas with the specific mission of coordinating technical assistance efforts with the national teams deployed in the field.
Also in attendance were John M. Barrett, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Venezuela, and Colonel Ian Murray, Defense Attaché of that diplomatic delegation.
On behalf of the Bolivarian Government, there were also the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, and the sectoral vice-president of Politics, Citizen Security and Peace and Minister of People's Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello. Both delegations reviewed logistical priorities to streamline service in critical areas, combining international technical experience with the operational capabilities of local citizen security agencies .
