The president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, reported that 589 people have died and 2,980 have been injured as a result of the double earthquake recorded this week in the country.

He noted that search teams have managed to rescue dozens of people alive, which he described as a fact that allows families to meet again in the midst of the emergency.

Rodríguez indicated that so far 214 aftershocks have occurred, which shows the seismic activity in the national territory and the energy release process that continues to take place. He explained that security and rescue agencies maintain simultaneous operations in areas with collapsed structures.

The president in charge thanked the spontaneous support of motorcyclists who have facilitated the transfer of water to the affected communities, as well as the incorporation of volunteers at the search points. He said that during his visit to San Bernardino, together with Mayor Carmen Meléndez, a group of citizens came to volunteer, which allowed them to immediately organize the rescue efforts.

He highlighted the solidarity of the Venezuelan people, who have taken to the streets to reach out to those who were affected. He highlighted the recognition of rescuers from different states of the country, who have joined operations to locate people trapped in buildings and houses that collapsed after the seismic event.

Rodríguez said that the Government remains focused on ensuring the peace of mind of the population and meeting the most urgent needs of affected families. He reported that the Minister of Commerce, the Minister of Youth and the president of Emprender Junto are carrying out the economic survey of businesses impacted by the earthquakes, as part of the actions for recovery.
