The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated the fulfillment of the sixth goal, referring to “the strengthening of the Popular Government system”. From the Protocol Chamber of the National Assembly (AN), he stated that in 2023, with the popular vote and in the territory, 32,000 Community Councils
were renewed out of the more than 49,000 that exist in the country.
“We have 1,300,000 new and repowered voices that
represent 42.9% of the country's electoral roll (...), a true participatory and leading democracy.
That is the country's new power.
That is the power that Commander Chávez founded and left for future generations.”
He specified that “People's Power is the energy that powers our entire mechanism. Our third line of work was to expand the presence of Popular Power, an objective that has been key at the dawn of the Revolution and we can say that we met the goal.”
In addition, he stressed that “direct democracy must be legitimate in its form and coherent in its substance. One of the weaknesses that we had been carrying and that obstructed the proper functioning of Popular Power was, without a doubt, the lack of updating of its spokeswomen and spokespersons in communal councils and communes, legally constituted throughout the national territory.”
The Head of State urged the Minister of Popular Power for the Communes, Jorge Arreaza, to present every month the municipal, regional and national transfer of competence and resources to organized communities, because only “Popular Power can”.
