The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, presented to the families of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, the Order of Liberators of Venezuela and the Replica of the sword of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, as part of the acts of homage to the hero of the Fatherland.

The award of the above-mentioned awards was made at the National Pantheon, where he led the event on the occasion of the arrival of the remains of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes.

“I present to General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, on this day that marks 112 years since his passage to immortality and precisely the day he enters the Pantheon of the Heroes of Venezuela, the National Pantheon, the Order of Liberators of Venezuela and the Replica of the sword of the Liberator Simon Bolivar,” he said.

He specified that the decorations “have been given to his great-great-grandson José Gregorio Hernández Cabrera, who honors us with his presence.”

“Also the great-grandson of one of our General's daughters: Mercedes and grandson of the one who wrote one of the most fascinating books in the general's life: Horacio Cabrera Sifontes,” he added.

President Maduro assured that “bringing General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, hero of Cuyuní, the terror of the English terror of the Cuyuní, to the National Pantheon, is the greatest justice we can do to vindicate a good man who defended the Fatherland above any circumstance, difficulty or pain, who loved his land, who loved Venezuela and demonstrated his love in battle.”
