The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, after his meeting with his counterpart from Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, to directly address the territorial controversy over the Essequibo, thanked the Guyanese president for his receptivity and his willingness to move forward in several sectors.

The head of state arrived in the country from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where both parties agreed to hold talks to resolve the dispute.

He asserted that “it was a fruitful, intense and at times tense day, but where it was possible to speak with the truth”.

“I thank President Mohamed Irfaan Ali for his candor on all the issues that we were able to address directly, face to face, in front of a group of leaders from the Latin American and Caribbean region,” the president stressed.

It should be noted that Venezuela and Guyana agreed to create a joint commission, which will be made up of the foreign ministers of both nations, to address the Essequibo controversy.

“It was worth defending the truth of Venezuela, raising the flag of truth, raising our historical reasons and seeking, with the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, the path of dialogue to channel this historical controversy wherever it should be through a bilateral path,” said President Maduro Moros.
