The president of the National Assembly (AN), deputy Jorge Rodríguez, reported that the Legislative Branch will begin this Tuesday, January 9th, the second discussion of the Organic Law for the Defense of Guiana Esequiba.

The announcement was made by Rodríguez, during the notification to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, of the beginning of the 2024-2025 sessions of the Parliament, an act that took place at the Miraflores Palace.

He explained that the call for the resumption of sessions is established in the National Constitution, “regardless of the political umbrella to which any deputy belongs, each of the 277 parliamentarians is already convened every January 5 at 11:00 in the morning at the headquarters of the Legislative Power.”

In his speech, he specified that in 2023, the AN undertook to promote the intensive process of reconstitution of the Legislative Building and in legislative action 74 laws were sanctioned.

He also mentioned that the election of the rectors of the Electoral Power and the convening of the Consultative Referendum on Guiana Essequiba took place.

Regarding the parliamentary agenda for 2024, the president of the AN said that the selection of the Attorney General of the Republic, the Comptroller General and Ombudsman of the Republic is scheduled.
