The Minister of People's Power for Transport, Francisco Garcés, said that the port of La Guaira recovered 92% of its capacity, after the damage it suffered due to the seismic event of last June 24
“Fortunately, the team we have in La Guaira, a very powerful, very professional team, was able to make the necessary adjustments to put the equipment back into operation; some cranes that had been derailed, others had left service, are already connected,” said Garcés, in an interview with VTV.
The holder of the Transportation portfolio reported that the port of Puerto Cabello was not significantly affected after the earthquake; he also indicated that operations continued and even increased.
During his speech, he noted that there was a slight decrease in the number of ships received, from 1,578 in 2025 to 1,447 in 2026. However, the containers that entered in 2026 are larger and have a higher volume, because fewer ships have arrived, but with greater capacity.
On the other hand, the minister mentioned that the Caracas Metro maintains its operation and operation in an optimal way, with qualified personnel with a high quality of service for users.
“Of course, one of the important works being done within the Caracas Metro is the increase, gradually increasing the supply to users on the different lines; for that reason, work is being done to recover trains,” he added.
