The president of the Chamber of Construction, Gustavo García Carrasquero, reported this Monday on the actions, technical criteria and academic alliances that will guide the reconstruction phase of the state of La Guaira, after the devastating earthquakes recorded in Venezuela on June 24.
In an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), García Carrasquero said that the definitive reconstruction of the affected areas will be based on rigorous technical audits, soil studies, seismology and road and dock evaluations.
In this regard, he stressed the importance of promoting close coordination with the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) and the Metropolitan University (UNIMET), and urged the College of Engineers to lead the updating of the anti-seismic regulations in force in the country.
García Carrasquero indicated that Venezuela has the necessary installed capacity, so it is essential to boost operational capacity and join efforts with the private sector to increase the production of key inputs such as steel, also suggesting tariff flexibility mechanisms that speed up the import of essential materials.
He projected that the comprehensive reconstruction process will take two to four years, a period that will be supported by construction chambers in Latin America, technical advice from the Miyamoto firm and the interest of experts from China and the United States (USA).
