Rescue personnel from Spain arrived in the country with the firm intention of joining the contingency and relief operations deployed after the double earthquake that shook the national territory on June 24. The arrival of this specialized team responds to the channels of international cooperation coordinated by the State in the face of the emergency, allowing cutting-edge efforts and technical knowledge to be concentrated in the areas that registered the most severe structural impacts due to earthquakes.
The European contingent is made up of 54 military personnel belonging to the Military Emergency Unit (UME), who make up an elite unit certified in urban search and rescue (USAR) tasks. This technical delegation is internationally trained in locating people in collapsed structures and is equipped with specialized high-tech tools, which will make it possible to immediately reinforce the technical deployment carried out by national security agencies on the most complex fronts of work.
The arrival of the Spanish delegation comes after the diplomatic coordination and damage balances offered by the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, who emphasized the importance of international support to speed up technical assistance in the field. This joint effort seeks to strengthen the general mitigation and rescue plan, ensuring that international personnel are integrated in an articulated manner into the operational tasks of civil protection and medical assistance that are already in full swing in the affected communities.
With the addition of these specialists, search and rescue operations gain a key operational boost, in addition to the technical assistance offered by other nations and under the coordination of disaster response agencies.
Sectorial authorities and rescue bodies maintain constant monitoring of vulnerable sectors, focused on the strategic removal of debris and the provision of spaces to safeguard human lives and consolidate the progressive stabilization of affected regions.
