Resolution of the Government of Peru authorizes the entry of the military corps of the United States Department of Defense

Through Legislative Resolution No. 32214, the Peruvian Government authorizes the entry of the military corps of the United States Department of Defense, as well as its weapons, into that territory. The measure protects them to carry out cooperative training activities with the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police.

According to information from Telesur, in accordance with paragraph 8 of Article 102 of the Peruvian Political Constitution, the activities will take place from January 1 to December 31 , 2025.

The text authorizes the Executive Branch “so that, through a supreme resolution approved by the Minister of Defense, it can modify, when there are unforeseen causes, the start date of the activities considered in the annex to this legislative resolution”.

The Executive Branch informed Congress that U.S. military personnel will be present in several provinces, including Lima, Callao, Loreto, San Martín, Huánuco, Ucayali, Pasco, Junín, Huancavelica, Cusco, Ayacucho, Apurimac, Santa Lucía, Puerto Maldonado, Iquitos and Pucusana. With 55 personnel, the group will carry out support, assistance and training tasks aimed at strengthening the capacities of the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru with 25 M4 rifles, 25 short barrels for M4 rifles, 25 M9 or M17 pistols and an equal number of Glock pistols.
