The sole authority of the new Guayana Esequiba state, Alexis Rodríguez Cabello, stressed that the General of the Republic, Domingo Antonio Sifontes, deserves all the honors and distinctions, since “without asking for anything in return and finding himself in one of the most remote and secluded places in the country, he fulfilled his duty as a soldier.”
He emphasized that he “saved Venezuela from the dispossession of an entire vast territory (Guyana Essequiba) from the hands of the infamous English.”
“Today we met in this sacred area of the Fatherland to recognize and distinguish a Venezuelan, a soldier, a general of the Republic: Domingo Antonio Sifontes,” he said.
This was stated by Cabello, in the National Pantheon, where he was the Speaker of Order at the event led by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, on the occasion of the arrival of the remains of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes.
He stated that “many of the characters whose bodies rest in this temple physically or symbolically had this idea of doing extraordinary things, which made them in a certain sense immortal”.
In this sense, as an example, he mentioned the Liberator Simon Bolivar, who “wanted to be remembered over time as a man who gave everything for the freedom of his homeland, his messages and works were so powerful, that two centuries later they still guide our steps”.
