Senior UN official for Humanitarian Affairs arrives in Venezuela in the face of an earthquake emergency

The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Tom Fletcher, arrived in Venezuela this Tuesday, on a working visit in response to the recent earthquakes in the country.
The reception of the senior official, at the “Arturo Michelena” International Airport in Valencia, Carabobo state, was given by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi, accompanied by the head of the OCHA in Venezuela, Vanessa May.
On behalf of the Bolivarian Government of the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, the Venezuelan diplomat welcomed Fletcher, whom he thanked for his presence in the country in the midst of the tragedy.
He explained that the Deputy Secretary General will maintain a coordinated work agenda with the National Executive to review the actions to be taken in the face of the seismic emergency.
“I have reiterated the extraordinary work and coordination that we have had since day one with all the agencies of the United Nations, and we have also brought to order all our institutions and all our teamwork for what is to come and what will be these new phases that we are facing after the earthquake,” said Li Causi.
