Simon Bolivar National Journalism Award 2026 announced its winners

The Qualifying Jury for the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award announced this Tuesday, September 15, the verdict of the 2026 edition, with awards in the categories of Print Journalism, Opinion, Graphic Imaging, Radio, Television, Digital, Community and Alternative Journalism, and Teaching and Research.

This was announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Communication and Information, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, on his Telegram channel, from which he extended his congratulations to the winners and to the judging jury composed of Taynem Hernández, Odry Farnetano, Nathali Gómez, Ricardo Scarone and Yoset Montes, who this time evaluated 284 applications before issuing their verdict.

“From the Ministry of People's Power for Communication and Information, we express our recognition to the judging jury for evaluating the hundreds of applications, as well as to each of this year's winners,” he said.

The Single Simon Bolivar Award was awarded to journalist and political analyst Clodovaldo Hernández, a member of the La Iguana team, in recognition of his four decades of experience in print and digital media and his work of analyzing and interpreting national events.

Roberto Betancourt was honored in Opinion Journalism; Maxwell Adrián Briceño Godoy was recognized in Graphic Imaging; Rosa Yasmín Ríos Serrano won on Radio; Estrella Velandia was recognized in Television; Banking and Business received the award in Digital Journalism; Mandarria a la Memoria was distinguished in the Community category and Alternative, while Alfredo Reyes won the award in Teaching and Research.

Also, on this occasion, special mentions were awarded to Mercedes Chacín, for her political chronicle “Beautiful Answer to a Friend Who Asked Me”; Iván Ernesto Lira Gómez, for his work as an illustrator and infographer; Homer Gerardo Márquez, for the audiovisual series “José Gregorio Hernández and Carmen Rendiles”; the women's Noticia 058 team, made up of Joselyn Figueroa, Luisandra Barboza, Yuleisy Matheus and Marilyn Mariño, for their focus on solutions journalism; Jimmy Marcano, for the Alternative Contact program; and Richard Ávila, for the radio audience measurement methodology developed with his students at Maturín.

In addition, the verdict included a posthumous tribute to recently deceased communicators, including Nélida Arrechedera Mejía, Elvis Linares, Daniel Castellano and Walter Martínez, as well as to those who lost their lives during the double earthquake of last June 24.
