The Chinese Government reiterates that “the question of Taiwan is an internal matter of China”

The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, Mao Ning, asserted that “the question of Taiwan is an internal matter of your country.”

“It doesn't matter how the situation changes on the island of Taiwan. The basic facts that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is a part of China will not change,” said the official, as reviewed by the RT portal.

The Chinese government reiterated its aspiration to strengthen ties and move towards reunification with Taiwan despite

results in which the Progressive Democratic Party (DPP) won the elections last Saturday with more than 40% of the votes.

The representative of the PDP, Lai Ching-te, 64, focus on preserving independence in the face of sovereignty claims by China and are committed to a greater rapprochement with the United States

China reiterated that it will work closely with political parties, groups and representatives of various circles in Taiwan to promote exchanges and cooperation.

It will also seek to promote the general development and advancement of Chinese culture, creating an environment conducive to the peaceful development of relations between both sides of the Strait and to advance the cause of national reunification.
