Tsunami alert issued in Japan after magnitude 7.6 earthquake

After a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that shook Japan this Monday, January 1, the authorities of the Asian country issued a tsunami warning.
In this regard, they ordered an immediate evacuation “to higher areas” in the coastal region of Noto, in Ishikawa prefecture, after the confirmation of tsunamis on the country's east coast.
The authorities also issued a warning for the surrounding prefectures of Niigata and Toyama, stressing that the waves could reach 3 meters high.
Around 32,500 homes in Ishikawa prefecture were left without electricity and many houses collapsed, so the Japanese chief of staff, Yoshimasa Hayashi, warned of people who are trapped in the rubble and announced the risk of more aftershocks.
