The British Foreign Minister, Ed Miliband, ratified this Tuesday the formal concession to advance the exploitation of hydrocarbons within the Sea Lion field, located in the territorial waters of the Falkland Islands under a sovereignty dispute, handing over the operations to the consortium made up of the Israeli firm Navitas and the British firm Rockhopper.

The British colonialist decision foresees the drilling of 23 wells in the northern sector of the field, located 240 kilometers from the islands, with a projected capacity of up to 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day using floating production vessels that would operate starting next year on the Argentine continental shelf.

The London endorsement came a few hours after the Argentine Government submitted a request for interim measures to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (TIDM) in Hamburg, evidencing the zero impact of the diplomatic strategy of the Red House to curb the dispossession of energy resources from the South Atlantic.

The Labor Executive's measure ignores the resolutions of the United Nations that prohibit the unilateral alteration of the controversial area, reaffirming the military presence and the extractivist plunder of the British Empire over Latin American territorial sovereignty.
