Venezuela exhibits editorial production at the XXXIV Havana International Book Fair 2026

Venezuela participated in the XXXIV Havana International Book Fair (FILHAV 2026), a space where more than 1,300 new publishers from all over the world were presented, with national awards for Literature, Social Sciences and Publishing.

The F ILHAV 2026 was dedicated to the centenary of Commander Fidel Castro Ruz, with Russia being the guest country of honor. He also paid tribute to Marilyn Bobes and José Bell Lara.

Under the motto Reading is Growing, FILHAV was organized by the Cuban Book Institute and included activities in cultural institutions in Havana, such as the Casa de las Américas, the Casa del Alba, the “Dulce María Loynaz” Center, the Cuba Pavilion, the Center for Martian Studies, the Library National and the “José Martí” Memorial.

The stand in Venezuela provided the public with the opportunity to explore more than 150 titles that brought together publications from public, private and independent publishers, including E l Perro y la Rana, Monte Ávila Editores Latinoamericana and Biblioteca Ayacucho, attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture.

The Venezuelan delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Development for the Cultural Economy and coordinator of the Book and Reading Platform of the Ministry of Culture, Rosario Soto, accompanied by the writers Esmeralda Torres and José Javier Sánchez; Elis Labrador, executive director of The Dog and the Frog and Monte Ávila; and Gladys Ortega, editorial coordinator of Monte Ávila; together with the Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba, Orlando Maneiro Gaspar, the Consul General Vivian Alvarado and officials of the Diplomatic Mission.

In this context, Venezuela presented 19 literary works, including the collection of poems “Cuerpo Quebrado Lumbre”, by Esmeralda Torres, winner of the Casa de las Américas Poetry Award (2025) and awarded at the headquarters of this emblematic Cuban cultural institution.

In addition, José Javier Sánchez, poet, narrator and literary critic, presented his work “From being language to not being forgotten”, with which he became the winner of the “Ramón Palomares” National Literature Biennial (2023).

Finally, as part of the cooperation and cultural solidarity activities maintained by both nations, the Ministry of Culture donated to the Cuban Book Chamber and the House of the Americas more than 150 new editorials produced in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
