The Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Yván Gil, participated this Friday in the 3rd Meeting of the Sargasso Subcommission: Integration and Regional Cooperation of the Association of Caribbean States (AEC).
During this meeting, held at the Center for Environmental Studies of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), Gil reaffirmed “the importance of articulating scientific, technical and innovation capacities to face the challenge that sargassum represents for Caribbean fishing, navigation, ports and tourism.”
It also ratified the willingness of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to put its scientific capacities, laboratories, research centers and human talent at the service of the countries of the region, “with the purpose of moving towards concrete proposals and cooperation programs to address this problem, a consequence of climate change and the pollution crisis, in a joint manner.”
The minister also highlighted Venezuela's commitment to strengthening, in the face of common challenges, regional integration and promoting scientific cooperation aimed at generating sustainable solutions for our Caribbean peoples who live on fishing and tourism.
“We thank the Secretary General of the AEC, Noemí Espinoza Madrid, and the president of the Sargasso Subcommission, Jesús Guerra Bell, for promoting this space for dialogue and regional cooperation,” he stressed.
