Intellectual property certificates were awarded to economic actors in the country during the Second Intellectual Property Meeting held in Caracas, led by the vice-president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, with the participation of delegations from China, Russia and Cuba, as well as representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
During his speech, Rodríguez welcomed the international organizations present, in addition to highlighting the role of China as a world leader in patent registration.
“This is an extraordinary example that there is no criminal blockade that can do with the will of the Peoples, that there is no economic aggression that cannot with the will of the People,” he said in a review of Venezolana de Televisión.
The meeting made official the award of the country's first collective brand to the Fishermen's Movement, through the National Coordinator of Fishermen and Aquaculturists of Venezuela (CONPPA), which registers 25 seafood products.
“I want to highlight something very important: we have delivered the first collective brand in Venezuela, and that collective brand is for a productive, social and organized movement,” Rodríguez said.
A brand certificate was also granted to a product developed by Pequiven workers, intended for pipe cleaning. “I am proud because it's a product that helps clean pipes,” she said.
The vice-president stressed that these initiatives demonstrate the value of creative thinking applied to the national economy.
In the same way, he indicated that intellectual property represents one of the most relevant intangible assets for the development of countries. “They represent the innovation of their peoples, the degree of science and technology, education transversalized through science and technology, protecting the capacities and creative powers of our people,” he said.
Compared to the previous year, more than 120 percent growth was reported in trademarks, more than 420 percent in copyrights and nearly 600 patents. “Not only are they our courageous men and women, the People of Venezuela, but it's also about protecting their thinking,” he said.
Rodríguez reaffirmed that the creative economy is a way to consolidate national independence. “The West may block our access to the international financial system, it may block commercial and financial activities, but they can never block our thinking of freedom, of independence, of love for Venezuela,” he stressed.
The event was attended by the Economic Cabinet and national authorities, including the Minister of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo; the Minister of the People's Power for National Trade, Luis Villegas; and the president of the Marca País Foundation, Daniella Cabello.
“Here, too, we recognize the work of the Autonomous Intellectual Property Service (SAPI) to facilitate the exercise of copyright and the registration of trademarks in the country,” Rodríguez concluded.
