Venezuela urges UN countries to release funds withheld for reconstruction after earthquakes

This Wednesday, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urged member countries of the United Nations (UN) to release the sovereign funds withheld from the Venezuelan State to advance in the reconstruction of the areas affected by the devastating earthquakes that occurred last June 24.
Through his Telegram channel, the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, reported on his participation, on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, in the ministerial meeting of the Member States of the United Nations on the humanitarian response to earthquakes in the Latin American nation.
“The meeting was chaired by Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and was attended by the UN Resident Coordinator in Venezuela, Gianluca Rampolla, as well as other United Nations authorities,” said Gil.
He said that, during the meeting, the participants addressed “the coordination of an urgent, effective and dignified response” for the population affected by the tragedy.
Regarding the release of the withheld funds, the Foreign Minister stressed that this is a measure “crucial for Venezuela to have the necessary resources to rebuild both the material infrastructure and the quality of life of all affected citizens.”
