At a meeting, held in Uruguay, aimed at
strengthening the competencies of control bodies in the safe transfer
of radioactive materials, technical specialists from Venezuela participated in
the Regional Training on the Safety of Non-Nuclear
Radioactive Material in Transportation.
The Venezuelan representation was mainly
composed of specialists from the National Center for Development and Research
in Telecommunications Foundation (CENDIT) and the Venezuelan Institute for
Scientific Research (IVIC), such as electronic engineer Samuel Perozo and
researcher Aarón Ascanio, who offered a technical presentation.
In their speech, the specialists addressed the national work plans
for the transport of radioactive materials and the
care for possible radiological emergencies, developed by institutions
attached to the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as the respective
offices of Defense and the Office of Internal Relations, Justice and Peace. They also
presented the legal and regulatory framework that regulates such transfers.
Among the national methodologies and tools designed
to optimize and protect operational safety, the
development of specialized containers for the protection and transport of radioactive
sources stood out, as well as the implementation of an
automated reporting system for the continuous monitoring of FRSD.
The international meeting was attended by
delegations from ten countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region, including
Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama,
together with Venezuela.
