This Sunday, the sector vice-president of Communication and Culture, Freddy Ñánez, through his Telegram channel, reported on the physical departure of the Venezuelan writer, poet, essayist and art critic Juan Calzadilla.
“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to the great Juan Calzadilla, poet, visual artist and literary critic. Just on Father's Day, a great Venezuelan leaves us with a work that will accompany us forever. Now John is his living word. Until every time teacher!” , he wrote.
The teacher Juan Calzadilla was born in Altagracia de Orituco, in 1931. He studied letters and philosophy at the Pedagogical Institute and at the Central University of Venezuela.
He started out in journalism and art criticism in 1955, and during 1959 he went to work at the Museum of Fine Arts as a guide and as director of the magazine Visual.
He also participated in the main avant-garde movements in his country and promoted the development of urban poetry and metapoetic reflection; in these directions, his poems dictated by the pack (1962) and Watchman's Tactics (1982) are important.
