Yvan Gil: We will stop the new filibusterism that tries to destabilize the region!

The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yvan Gil, condemned the British government's interventionist intentions with respect to the territory of Guyana Essequiba.

“This dispute will be resolved directly between the parties,” Gil said, while stressing that “the only valid action of the United Kingdom will be the recognition of its responsibility under international law and the obligations deriving from the Geneva Agreement of 1966. We will stop the new filibusterism that is trying to destabilize the region!”

In this regard, Gil recalled that this territorial controversy over Guyana Essequiba was generated by the British when they invaded this Venezuelan territory during the colonial period.

It should be noted that the chancellor's statements coincide with the visit of the Minister of the United Kingdom for the Americas, David Rutley, to Guyana on December 18, with the intention of creating discomfort with regard to the negotiating dialogue on the Essequibo.
