THIS WAS DENOUNCED BY THE YOUNG JORGE RODRÍGUEZ
(THE IMPULSE, February 13, 1959)
- During the first days of the Government of Rómulo Betancourt (1959-1964), Ángel Gilberto Rojas, a young leader of the Communist Youth of the Edo, was assassinated. Lara, on behalf of state police officers.
- Rojas was attacked by agent 406, named Rufino Antonio Mogollón, who shot him three times.
- Another colleague, belonging to that left-wing political organization, a minor by the name of Jorge Rodríguez, who was present there, stood up before the agent to claim the crime. He was also shot, receiving as his only response several bullets that failed to hit him.
- All this happened in the city of Barquisimeto, where Ángel was meeting with other colleagues from the Communist Youth, at the premises of the National Association of Employees (ANDE).
- That night, a meeting was being held in that place, when a police officer began to annoy those in attendance.
- Ángel Rojas then made a cordial complaint to him, which he did not accept. The agent then went to find the official number 406, Rufino Antonio Mogollón, who arrived at the party and without a word shot him three times, one of them in the abdomen, which killed him instantly.
- The underage witness, Jorge Rodríguez, described that he was present when police officer No. 406 Rufino Mogollón shot three shots at Ángel Rojas until he was lying on the pavement.
- When Jorge Rodríguez tried to lift Ángel Rojas off the ground, the policeman stopped him by shouting: “If I grab you I'll burn you.”
- Four of the young people gathered there, eyewitnesses, were shot and survived after being treated in a timely manner in the emergency at the Barquisimeto General Hospital.
