In the Portuguese state, the authorities began canalizing and dredging the Camburito River and building berms to protect rural Araure sectors from possible overflows.

The work is in charge of the Mayor's Office and is being carried out at the level of the Chimborazo and Barrio Ajuro hamlets, which are historically susceptible during the winter and are affecting communities and roads as a result of the heavy rains of recent months.

For the work, the municipal director of Infrastructure, Xavier Alvarado, reported that a lot of heavy machinery is enabled, in order to mitigate the risk of floods that year after year threatens the inhabitants of the area.

In addition to rectifying the edges and extracting sediments and cleaning the river bottom, the official reported that berms or retaining walls will be built to prevent water from leaving the riverbed and to strengthen the protection of both communities and roads.

The works are part of a preventive and comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring adequate water flow and will be complemented by the repair of roads that are impassable due to rainfall, limiting the mobility and connection of numerous peasant settlements.
